Log in to your WordPress.com account

Last reviewed on May 22, 2026

Log in to your WordPress.com account to access and manage your website. In this guide, you will learn how to log in to your account using a password, two-step authentication, security key, or social login.

Log in to your account

To access your account and website on WordPress.com, take the following steps:

  1. Visit the WordPress.com homepage.
  2. Click the “Log In” link in the upper-right corner. If you are already logged into Google, you may see an option to continue with your Google account (click the X in the top right if you want to log in with your WordPress.com account instead.)

  1. In the box provided, enter your account’s email address or username.

  1. Click the Continue button.
  2. Enter the password associated with your account.
  3. Click the “Log in” button.

Forgot your password? Use the “Lost your password?” link on the login page to reset your password.

Log in with two-step authentication

Two-step authentication is a security process that requires two methods of identification, like a password plus a code from SMS or an authenticator app. If you have enabled two-step authentication on your account, follow these steps to log in:

  1. Visit the WordPress.com homepage.
  2. Click the “Log In” link in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter your email address or username and click the Continue button.
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. Next, you’ll be prompted to enter a verification code. Depending on whether you set up SMS or an authenticator app, enter the verification code from your texts or app.
  6. Click the Continue button to log in.
Prompt to enter two-step authentication code.

If you’ve lost access to your verification method, you can use a backup code to log in. If you don’t have backup codes, see our account recovery guide for additional options.

Log in with security key authentication

A security key on WordPress.com is a two-step authentication method you use instead of a code from SMS or an authenticator app. After you enter your password, your security key verifies your identity to complete the log in. A security key can be a passkey saved by your browser, password manager, or device (such as iCloud Keychain, 1Password, Google Password Manager, or Windows Hello), or a physical key like a YubiKey. WordPress.com refers to all of these as “security keys” in your account settings. Your browser or device may refer to them as “passkeys.”

If you have a security key or passkey configured, follow these steps to log in:

  1. Visit the WordPress.com homepage.
  2. Click the “Log In” link in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter your email address or username and click the Continue button.
  4. Enter your password when prompted.
  5. You’ll see a prompt asking whether you want to verify using your key or your authenticator app/SMS. To verify using your key, click the “Continue with security key” button.
Two Step authentication options
  1. Next, you’ll see a prompt to connect your key. Plug the key into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Depending on the key type, either press the button or tap the gold disc on the key to finish logging in.
Prompt to connect security key and complete login.

Note: If you take too long to verify, the request will be canceled. Click “Continue with security key” again to restart.

Use a social login

Social logins let you access your account using Google, Apple, or GitHub instead of a password. To connect a social login to an existing account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your profile at https://wordpress.com/me.
  2. In the left menu, click the Security option.
  3. Scroll down and click the “Social Logins” section.
  4. Click the Connect button next to Google, Apple, or GitHub to approve the connection between that service and your WordPress.com account.

Next time you log in, use the appropriate social login button on the right side of the login screen.

Buttons are shown to log in with Google, Apple, and GitHub.

Resolve login issues

Make sure you’re logging in at wordpress.com/log-in. If your site is self-hosted or uses WordPress.org, log in through your hosting provider. Learn the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

Troubleshoot missing login emails and codes

If you requested a login link, a verification code, or a password reset and the email did not arrive, work through these checks in order:

  1. Wait two to three minutes. Email delivery is usually fast but can be delayed by your email provider.
  2. Check your spam, junk, and promotions folders. Login emails from WordPress.com are sent from donotreply@wordpress.com.
  3. Add donotreply@wordpress.com to your email contacts or safe-sender list, then request the email again.
  4. Confirm you entered the email address that is on file for your WordPress.com account. If you have more than one account, you may be requesting the email for the wrong one.
  5. Try a different request: if a login link did not arrive, request a password reset instead, or use a two-step backup code.

If you no longer have access to the email address on your account, your account email cannot be changed without logging in. Follow the account recovery guide to verify ownership and regain access.

If you are not receiving SMS verification codes, see SMS code troubleshooting or use a backup code instead.

Stop using a passkey or security key

If your browser or device prompts for a passkey when you log in and you want to use your password and a two-step authentication code instead, remove the passkey from your WordPress.com account:

  1. Go to your profile at https://wordpress.com/me/security/two-step.
  2. Scroll to the Security Key section.
  3. Click the trash icon next to the key you want to remove, then click Remove Key to confirm.

After you remove the passkey, you log in by entering your password followed by a two-step authentication code from SMS or your authenticator app. A passkey alone cannot replace your password on WordPress.com today.

To log in without entering your password, request a one-time login link via the “Email me a login link” option on the login screen. See Log in without a password for the full walkthrough.

Your browser or password manager may also store the passkey separately. To stop the browser passkey prompt from appearing, remove the WordPress.com passkey from your password manager. See Remove a Key for the full WordPress.com walkthrough.

Find a forgotten account or log in to a second account

If you cannot remember the email address or username for your WordPress.com account, see Find your username or email address. That guide covers checking past WordPress.com emails, billing receipts, and password manager entries.

If you have more than one WordPress.com account, you can only be logged into one at a time per browser. To use a second account, open a different browser or an incognito or private window and log in there.

WordPress.com does not currently combine two accounts into one automatically. To consolidate sites, domains, and subscriptions under a single account, follow the steps in Merge two WordPress.com accounts.

Account locked or suspended

If you entered an incorrect password several times in a row, you may be blocked from signing in for a few minutes — wait a few minutes and try again with the correct password. For account suspensions, persistent lock-outs, or any other access loss, see My account is locked or my site has been suspended on the Recover your account page.

Other login problems

If none of the situations above match yours, try these next:

After you log in, you can manage your sites and open WP Admin from your sites list at wordpress.com/sites.

Open your site’s dashboard

  1. Visit your sites list at wordpress.com/sites.
  2. Click the name of the site you want to manage.

This opens the site’s dashboard, where you can edit content, change settings, and manage your site.

Open WP Admin

WP Admin is the classic WordPress administration screen, sometimes called /wp-admin or the backend. To open WP Admin for one of your sites:

  1. Visit your sites list at wordpress.com/sites.
  2. Hover over a site to reveal the WP Admin link, then click it.

You can also type your site’s address followed by /wp-admin in your browser’s address bar, for example yourgroovysite.wordpress.com/wp-admin. See Use the WP Admin dashboard for a full walkthrough.

Choose Default View or WP Admin

WordPress.com offers two interface styles for your site’s dashboard:

  • Default View: the modern WordPress.com dashboard with streamlined navigation.
  • WP Admin: the classic WordPress dashboard, familiar to longtime WordPress users.

Both interfaces provide access to the same features. The block editor for writing posts and pages and the Site Editor for designing your site are separate tools that you open from either interface. See Set your admin interface style to switch between Default View and WP Admin.

Log out of WordPress.com

You can protect your WordPress.com account by signing out each time you’ve finished working. To log out of your WordPress.com account:

  1. Visit your profile at https://wordpress.com/me.
  2. Click the “Log out” button below your username.
An arrow points to the Log Out button.
