.in domains have special registry requirements for registration, privacy, verification, renewals, and transfers. This guide explains what these requirements mean when you manage a .in domain on WordPress.com.
Anyone—individuals and companies located anywhere—can register .in and all related country code second-level domains (.co.in, .firm.in, .gen.in, .ind.in, .net.in, and .org.in).
.in domains, as well as all related second-level domains, do not support privacy protection. All contact information is publicly visible.
.in domain registration is regulated by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI). To verify domain ownership, NIXI requires registrants to provide valid proof of identity, such as a government-issued ID or driver’s license.
If you register a .in domain through WordPress.com, you may be asked to submit your proof of identity. While the verification is in progress, NIXI will temporarily suspend the domain.
If WordPress.com cannot auto-renew the domain name and you do not manually renew it before it reaches expiration, it must be redeemed. There might be a fee for redemption. See Renewing a Domain in the Redemption Period for instructions on the redemption.
You must initiate the transfer with the gaining registrar (the registrar you are transferring to), which will ask you for an authorization code. Allow five to seven days for the transfer to complete.
You can transfer your .in domains to WordPress.com. Follow the steps in the Incoming Domain Transfer guide.
