Get started with WordPress.com Social

Last reviewed on June 2, 2026

WordPress.com Social is a short-form blogging experience for quick posts, replies, and reblogs on a site you own. This guide covers how to sign up, use the key features, and import posts from other social networks.

Create your social site

WordPress.com Social is free to use. You can sign up, post, reply, reblog, and import posts at no cost. Video uploads require the WordPress.com Premium plan or above. For more on video features, see VideoPress.

WordPress.com Social uses a dedicated signup flow separate from the standard WordPress.com site creation. To get started:

  1. Go to wordpress.com/social.
  2. Enter a username for your new site. Your site address will be username.wordpress.com.
    • If you are already logged into a WordPress.com account, the site is created under that account. To use a different account, log out first.
  3. Select the “Create my site” button.

  1. On the next screen, choose whether to make your site public or private and optionally invite collaborators.

  1. Select “Finish and go to my site“. You are taken directly to the front end of your new site.

Post, reply, and reblog

WordPress.com Social uses a simplified compose experience instead of the full WordPress editor. Posts have a 500-character limit, and a character counter in the compose box tracks your remaining characters as you type.

Follow other users

Every WordPress.com Social site includes an RSS feed, so readers can subscribe to any site using a feed reader.

You can also connect your site to the Fediverse so users on Mastodon and other ActivityPub platforms can follow your posts. To enable this, go to the Tools page on your site and select the Fediverse checkbox. For more details, see Enter the Fediverse.
