Add a countdown timer

Last reviewed on June 1, 2026

You can add a countdown timer to your website with the Event Countdown block, which counts down to a date and time you choose. This guide shows you how to add a countdown timer for a sale, product launch, event, or any upcoming date.

Add a countdown timer

To add a countdown timer, click on the + block inserter and search for Event Countdown. Alternatively, you can type /event on a new line and press enter.

For more information, visit our detailed instructions on adding blocks.

You will be asked for two pieces of information:

  • The title of your event.
  • The date and time of your event.
The Event Countdown block in the WordPress editor, displaying options to set the event title as 'Stoney Creek Marathon' and the date as 'Dec 12, 2025 2:40 pm'.

And that’s it! Preview the page to see your countdown timer in action.

Event Countdown block settings

When you select a block, you will find additional block settings in the right sidebar. If you do not see the sidebar, you may need to click the Settings icon in the top-right corner to bring up the settings. This icon looks like a square with two uneven columns:

The advanced option here lets you add a CSS class to your block, allowing you to write custom CSS and style the block as you see fit. For more, visit our detailed instructions on advanced settings.
