The Playlist block plays a list of audio tracks on your page, with track metadata, artwork, a waveform, and each track’s length. This guide covers how to add the block, build and arrange your tracklist, set each track’s details, and style the player.
This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Personal, Premium, Business, and Commerce plans. For free sites, upgrade your plan to access this feature.
To add the Playlist block, follow these steps:
- Open the post or page where you want the playlist.
- Click the + block inserter button and search for “Playlist.”
- Select the Playlist block to add it to your post or page.
- Choose the audio tracks for your playlist from your Media Library, or upload new audio files from your computer.
After adding a Playlist block and your initial audio tracks, you can continue to edit the playlist. Click on the Playlist block to open its toolbar, then use these controls to manage your tracks:
- Add a track: Click the Add button to add more tracks to the playlist.
- Replace a track: Select an individual track, then click the Replace button to swap it for a different audio file.
- Remove a track: Select an individual track, click the three-dot options menu, then select Delete to remove the track from the playlist.
Click on an individual track in the Playlist block to edit its details in the block settings sidebar. You can set the following for each track:
- Artist: The name of the performer or band.
- Album: The album the track belongs to.
- Title: The name of the track.
- Track image: The artwork shown for the track.
Select the Playlist block and open the block settings in the right sidebar to control what the tracklist displays. The following options are available:
- Show tracklist: Display or hide the full list of tracks.
- Show artist name in tracklist: Display each track’s artist.
- Show track numbers in tracklist: Number each track in the list.
- Show track duration in tracklist: Display the length of each track.
- Show tracklist images: Display the artwork for each track.
Below these options, use the Order dropdown to set the play order of your tracks. Choose Ascending or Descending.
Select the Playlist block and open the Styles tab in the block settings sidebar to change the appearance of the player.
The player can show a waveform, which is a visual representation of the audio’s volume over the length of each track. In the Styles tab, you can adjust the waveform:
- Waveform & Play button: Set the color of the waveform and the play button.
- Waveform background: Set the color behind the waveform.
- Waveform shape: Choose how the waveform looks. The options are bars, mirror, line, blocks, dots, and seekbar.
The Styles tab also includes the standard block settings:
- Typography: Adjust the font size and style of the text.
- Color: Set the text and background colors.
- Dimensions: Control the padding and margins.
- Border: Add a border and shadow.
