Amazon affiliate link troubleshoot

  I am having problems trying to insert an Amazon affiliate link to my blog. I have tried image and text, text, and image only links but each time the link looks odd (code visible).

  I have read on other forums that text links are the only advertising links allowed, but confused because on the affiliate link support page it says,

  “When blogging about books you’re reading, music you love, clothes that strike your fancy, gadgets you’re drooling over, or whatever is of interest to you and your readers, feel free to post relevant affiliate links using either text or images.”

  My goal is not advertising, but to cover myself from copyright infringement laws. I have read that if I include a picture of a book cover in my book reviews I need to include a link to where the book can be purchased.
