Can you have more than 1 site/blog in one account?

Just wondering. Is it possible to run 2 sites/blogs in the same wordpress.com account? I always thought this was possible, but read contradicting things about this. So let’s make this clear now. :)

So you have a wordpress.com account, is it possible to have 2 seperate sites/blogs within that account? (with both those blogs/sites having their own .wordpress.com URL or for paid accounts both having their own domain name, regardless if registered here or via an external domain registrar)

    Looks good; @justjennifer ! :)

It is confusing though that in the link you included in your reply, there is one sentence saying “A plan applies to one site only. One plan cannot be shared across multiple websites.” ; the rest of the article seems to indicate you can indeed have more than 1 site in your account, where the different sites have their own layout, subscribers, settings, … I guess I just misunderstand that one line “A plan applies to one site only. One plan cannot be shared across multiple websites.” (English is not my mothertongue)

What that means is when you purchase an upgrade plan, it only applies to the site you purchased it for. If you have another site, you’d need to buy another upgrade plan for that site separately.

Upgrade plans are per site, not per account.

    Hope that helps clarify things.

You’re absolutely right; a single WordPress.com account can have multiple separate sites or blogs, each with its own .wordpress.com address or custom domain. Each site is independent, with its own dashboard and settings. Just keep in mind, any paid plan or upgrade applies only to the specific site it’s purchased for, so if you want premium features on multiple sites, each site needs its own plan.

If you want, I’d be happy to help you set up your additional site or explore which plans would best suit your goals!

I am just starting to build my second site on my account. The first site is a free plan and to subscribe is free. The second site is a free plan and it costs $5.00 to subscribe. However, the second site is not sending emails as daily posts out to my newly subscribed paid subscribers for some reason. Does anyone know why? I have checked the obvious reasons that Ai might point out. Finally AI concluded that on the first site an email will be sent out for every post, but not on the subsequent sites. Hardly seems plausible. Is that true?

    Hi there!

To clarify the original question from @treesschepens: yes, a single WordPress.com account can have multiple separate sites or blogs. Each site is independent, with its own dashboard, settings, content, subscribers, and site address or custom domain. Paid plans and upgrades are applied per site, so one plan cannot be shared across multiple sites.

Regarding @lightnessofbeing2008’s question about the second site and post emails: having a second site in the same WordPress.com account should not prevent that site from sending post emails to its own subscribers. Each site can have its own newsletter/subscriber settings.

If subscribers on the second site are not receiving emails, it’s more likely related to that specific site’s newsletter settings, the subscribers’ email subscription status, or how the posts are being published/sent.

Here’s a few things worth checking on your second site:

    • Make sure the subscribers are subscribed to receive emails for that specific site.
    • Check the site’s Newsletter settings to confirm emails are enabled.
    • When publishing a post, confirm it is set to be emailed to subscribers.
    • If these are paid subscribers, make sure the paid newsletter/payment access settings are configured for that site.

Since this is a separate issue from the original question about having multiple sites in one account, please open a new forum topic and include the second site’s address so staff can take a closer look at the subscription setup.

    Thanks @melvend5 , @nicolasaramboles and @justjennifer :)

So if I get this right, one free wordpress.com account (so registered under the same email address) can indeed contain two (or more?) totally seperate blogs/sites who have their own settings, subscribers, layout, and URL.
I could then decide to pay for an upgrade for one of the sites, which would lead to a situation where the same wordpress.com account would contain 1 paid site/blog and 1 free site/blog. Do I get this right? Having 2 or 3 sites/blogs in a free wordpress.com account is possible, but it is also possible to have a paid site/blog and 1 or 2 free sites/blogs in the same account?

    @treesschepens

Yes, you’ve got it right. 🙂

A WordPress.com account/login can have multiple separate sites or blogs under it. Each site can have its own settings, content, subscribers, design/layout, and site address or custom domain.

The plan status is also handled per site, not per account. So yes, you could have something like this under the same WordPress.com account:

    • Site A: Free
    • Site B: Paid plan
    • Site C: Free

Upgrading one site only upgrades that specific site. It does not automatically upgrade the other sites in the same account, and the paid plan cannot be shared across them.

So having 2 or 3 free sites in one account is possible, and having a mix of one paid site plus one or more free sites in the same account is also possible.

I hope that clears things up, but let us know if anything is still unclear.
