What happens when a domain is cancelled? Will it be released for repurchase?

Hi, just to check – was this domain recently registered?
Generally if a domain was not recently registered (so it’s outside the initial 96-hour refund period), it has to go through the full registration term and expiration process in order to be released for repurchase.
There’s some information about that here:

That’s correct. However, when the domain was transferred in you still had time on your domain registration, so the transfer in added an additional year to your domain registration. Therefore it would be 2024-07-23 before it would be released.
You can keep the domain registered here at WordPress.com and use it elsewhere, then once you’re able to, you can transfer the domain to the domain registrar of your choice. If you want to go that route, let us know and we can restore the domain and provide instructions on updating your domain nameservers to point to your new site hosted elsewhere.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

OK. The domain is restored here. If you’d like to host here, add a plan, skip the domain step, and we’ll help you get it conencted.
Or, to point it to another host:
Typically you’ll just update the name servers, then give it a few hours to take effect:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/change-name-servers/Some hosts will want you to keep your DNS here and just change your A records and whatnot. That’s less common, but if that’s what they need, here’s how to go about it:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/custom-dns/Also, note you can usually transfer your domain to your new provider (if they support it) after about 60 days. Here’s how:

Just making sure I understand you correctly. If I put it in now, it can take 60 days to process/transfer?

Hi there,
Regarding the “60 day lock,” this is a requirement set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and we must adhere to it; it is not within our control to lift this 60 day lock for any reason.
The good news though is that it’s mostly a formality, bcause you can use the domain now, with any other service or hosting provider you choose. To do that, we can add settings on our end that will connect it to your new provider so you can use kaseysking.com address as the address for your new site, no need to wait.
For 60 days your domain will need to stay here and use settings to connect to outside services. When the 60 day lock is up, you will be able to transfer the domain itself to another service, and this will allow you to pay your renewal fee with that company since you will no longer have a connection to WordPress.com.
If you would like to let us know what company you plan to build your website with, we will see if we can find their recommended settings online and start the process of adding those settings to your domain.
