Disable ask “AI”

I have tried disabling it in the preferences menu, I have tried disabling it in the account setting, yet this LESS THAN USELESS bullshit is still there, getting in the way.

I have no want desire or need for any of these fake ass “AIs” and it like all LLMs is only in the way.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello!

I can see how frustrating this must feel, especially when you’ve already gone through multiple settings and it still feels like something is getting in your way. It’s completely understandable that you just want it gone and out of your workflow.

The good news is that you can absolutely disable the Ask AI and other AI-related features on your WordPress.com site. AI tools are entirely opt-in. If you don’t find these workflows helpful, you can choose which tools to use with your website and when to use them.

To disable the AI assistant on your site, follow these steps:

    1. Go to your hosting dashboard: https://wordpress.com/sites
    2. Click the ⋮ (three dots) next to the site you want to update.
    3. Select “Settings” from the dropdown menu.
    4. Open the “AI tools” section.
    5. Toggle “Enable AI assistant” to Off.

This controls the AI features at the site level, which is why it’s important to adjust it from the site settings rather than just account or editor preferences.

You can also review the official step-by-step documentation here if you want a reference while you go through it: https://wordpress.com/support/ai/#ai-tools-are-optional

If you run into any issues or still see AI prompts after turning this off, let me know what you’re seeing and I’ll be happy to help you track it down.

As I said I already did that, it didn’t get rid of it.

  • Hi @clwho83,

Thanks for reporting this and for your patience while we looked into it.

This appears to be a bug. The AI assistant floating bar is currently showing in the post editor, even on sites with the Free plan and sites where the AI features are turned off. Our team is aware of the issue and is actively investigating and working on a fix.

At the moment, there isn’t a way to dismiss or disable it from within the editor. I’ve also shared your report with the team so they have full visibility into how this is affecting users. While I don’t have a specific timeline just yet, please know that this is being worked on with priority.

We really appreciate your understanding, and I’ll keep you posted as soon as we have any updates.
