Do I need to reregister?
-
hi! I’d like to unlock the domain with WordPress so that I may transfer to another host. I need to unlock it, Disable Privacy, and Obtain EPP Code, and then point the DNS to the new host. The issue is, my domain name, “Thebachelorsbrew.wordpress.com” has expired. How do I accomplish all this? Thank you!

Hi there,
When you first register a new domain name, there’s a 60-day waiting period before you can transfer it. (After that waiting period ends, you can follow the steps in our guide to Transfer a Domain to Another Registrar to do that.) That’s a mandated waiting period and not something we can unlock for you.
In the meantime, though, you can point your domain’s name servers to your new host. That will let you use the domain with your new host until you’re able to transfer the registration there completely.
Another option is to cancel your domain registration here, but I don’t recommend doing that as long as you want to keep using the domain. It can take up to a few weeks for domains to be released again, and there’s no guarantee it will be available for you to register after it’s cancelled. It’s much safer to point it to your new host and then transfer it once the waiting period is up.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi, thanks for that response. So even though I’d already had the domain name registered (before it expired), I’d still have to wait the 60 days? I read on Blue Host that if you all agreed, I wouldn’t necessarily have to wait so long. Also, now that I’ll no longer be registered to WordPress, does this mean I can’t access the templates anymore? I’m just trying to understand what NOT being registered to WP means in terms of what i can and cannot do. Thank you!

Hi there,
The 60-day waiting period only applies if you keep the domain registered. If you cancel the domain, though, it can still sometimes take a few weeks for the domain to be released again. (And there’s always a chance someone else will grab it before you can register it again with Bluehost.)
If you keep it registered here at WordPress.com, you can still use it with Bluehost and the site you set up there. No matter where the domain is registered, you can point it to any site you want by changing the domain’s name servers.
Where your domain is registered only affects where you go to renew the domain each year. For example, you could keep the domain registered here at WordPress.com and point it to Bluehost, and it would work the same as if you transferred the domain entirely to Bluehost. The only difference is whether you renew the domain at WordPress.com or at Bluehost next year. :) That’s why I’d recommend keeping it registered here for now, and then transferring the registration to Bluehost after the 60-day waiting period.
