Domain Steal Inquiry

  Hello,

  My name is Stacey and I am in the process of growing my business. I am very hesitant of creating a website through any web host because I was told by many people/professionals that when/if I cancel my website, then the website host will steal the domain name. Is this true?

  I did purchase a domain name, so does that mean that if/when I create a website through you, you can steal my domain name if I cancel my website with you; or anyone?

  That can only happen if you create a site and domain with a host and let both expire.
  If you have purchased a domain elsewhere and want to use it with a site here at WordPress.com then you’ll need to purchase an upgraded plan. You can then map your domain to the site. You’ll continue to own the domain name regardless of whether you renew your WordPress.com plan. But of course you’ll need to continue paying for your domain wherever that may be at.
