Domain Transfer

  Hello,
  I just purchased a domain name from Hostgator and was thinking of using WordPress to build a blog to share information and market some products. I’m not sure what the best course of action is from here. I just completed the purchase so it is still pending at the moment.

  Hi there,

  Do you want to use WordPress.com, or the open source WordPress software at Hostgator? If the latter, please contact Hostgator support to speak about their WordPress hosting plans, and their process for installing that software on their servers.

  If you only just bought the domain, the only way to use it with a WordPress.com site is via our domain mapping upgrade. New domains cannot be transferred for 60 days after purchase, no matter where you bought it.

  Go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/ and create a new WordPress.com site. On the domains step pick the option to use a domain you already own and select the Mapping option. To use your own domain you’ll need at least the Personal Plan.

  Once your domain is at least 60 days old, you’ll be able to transfer it from Hostgator to us at no extra charge should you want to.
