How to move domain away from WordPress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi – I want to host my site elsewhere but I cannot take control over DNS settings. WP.com documentation and help are not really useful. Both CNAME and A record are handled by WP.com and I cannot change anything.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there!

You can point your domain to another host in one of the following ways:

    • Change the nameservers. If your new host gives you their nameservers, you can add them by following these steps.
    • Add A/CNAME records. You won’t have to edit the A record that’s handled by WordPress.com. If you add a new A record, it will override the ones we use.

I’d like to understand why you’d like to move your site to another host, though. Your WordPress.com Personal plan includes high-performance hosting with 6 GB of storage space, unlimited bandwidth, email support, and more. Is there anything in particular you didn’t find on WordPress.com?

Feel free to tell us more about the site you’d like to build. We can assist you better once we have a better understanding of your site requirements. :)
