How to recover website information from a suspended website.

My hosting company went out of business and my website was suspended. I now have a new hosting company. How can I recover the information that was on the old website and posted through WordPress? I am unable to access the old website.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If you don’t have any backup of your site like a WordPress export file, you can search for an archived version of it on the Internet Archive:

    http://web.archive.org/

Please note that there’s no easy way to extract content from the archived version. You have to manually copy the text and save the images.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

My information is stored in “My Sites” on WordPress, but I can gain access to it because I get a message saying this site can’t be assessed when I click on the Watchdogs for justice site and there is a little red circle next to it. I can access all my other sites.

Also, I can’t sign to WordPress because I get a message saying my user id is invalid and it doesn’t recognize my email address. I am using the same user id and email that I used before my old hosting company went out of business and suspended my website.

  • Hi @clarahunterking, the username and password for your old installation would not necessarily be the same username and password as your WordPress.com account.

Also, your WordPress.com account was just connected to the old site… it’s not necessarily storying a copy, unless you were using one of our paid packages with a backup solution.

You mentioned the old host went out business AND suspended your website, though. If it’s still suspended, it’s possible the files might still be there. Have you tried checking with the old host to see if they can send you a backup to use at a new host?
