In search of theme directory [excerpt set-up]
-
How would I find option to go to theme’s directory to set up a child theme, using Yoko? I believe the directory is where I need to go in order initiate change from full posts to excerpts on home page [if stick with my original Yoko theme]. Your advice would be greatly appreciated (though I must warn–I’m not very tech savvy–sorry). Thanks!

That’s not possible here at WordPress.COM.
The setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.
If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. Here are the themes that do provide that feature > https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410

For the sake of clarity, here at WordPress.com you are working on a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and you cannot access template files and edit.Only Staff can as every edit affects all blogs wearing the same theme.
The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like your blog are the themes found here http://wordpress.com/themes/
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

re: clarification—I see (understand). Someone had sent me that link (dot org) in an attempt to help me, so I hadn’t noticed it wasn’t our usual dot com. I think going with a different theme will be easier for me [I was just rather attached to my original (: ]

I see that you have switched to using Expound and it automatically creates front page excerpts. Happy blogging!

Me again… Just had to come back to say I’m loving Expound—Now I’m even sorry I resisted changing for so long! And getting to choose the featured image is a great option. Thanks again for your support.
