Invalid page and a disappearing page

Hi, I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure why I can’t add a “Home” to my menu. When I look in the background, I see it says invalid. I’ve googled it and tried all the suggestions and nothing seems to work. So, if someone goes to another tab, they can’t get back to the Homepage. In the post, it shows my page and then had Front Page written after it.

Then my Photos tab when we list all the Event Photos is now blank even though I see it listed in Pages. How do I bring that back? I used to add the events photos as a slideshow but the last attempt, it just loaded them in one long parade. It seems every time I need to make changes, some feature has changed in how to set it up.

    Please help!!

The “Invalid” label in your menu on moragaartgallery.com indicates that the original link to your homepage has been broken, likely because the page was renamed or its URL “slug” was modified in the backend. To fix this, you should not attempt to repair the existing link; instead, go to Appearance → Menus (or the Navigation section in the Site Editor), delete the red “Invalid” item, and re-add the page explicitly labeled “Home — Front Page” from your list of available pages. Regarding your Photos tab, if the page appears blank despite being listed in your dashboard, the Gallery or Slideshow block that previously held your images may have been accidentally deleted or disconnected. You can restore the “parade” of images by opening that page in the editor, inserting a new Gallery Block, and selecting your existing photos directly from the Media Library to repopulate the display.

  • Hi @moragaartgallery,

From your website Dashboard, it looks like your Homepage was previously set to a page that is now saved as a draft in Pages → All Pages, which is why the menu item is showing as “Invalid.”

At the moment, a different page is set as the homepage under Settings → Reading → Homepage, which is “Moraga Art Gallery announces a new exhibit, ‘From the Earth: Pottery and Blooms’.”

    To fix the menu:

    1. Go to Settings → Reading and confirm the page selected as the Homepage.
    2. Then go to Appearance → Menus, remove the Invalid item, and add the page currently set as the homepage back to the menu (you can label it Home).

For the Photos page, open it in the editor and check whether the Gallery or Slideshow block is still there. If it was removed, you can add a Gallery block again and select the images from the Media Library.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I was able to get the Home page to appear but I tried to customize the whole menu but was unable to. I want it to read: Home, About, Members, Event Photos, Join Our Email list, Ask MAG, Apply To MAG and Lamorinda Arts Alliance. The Archives should be a submenu (pulldown) under Event Photos and the Grand Opening and Reception should be a submenu under Archives). The 3 artists (Karen Mason, Mary Leigh Miller and Pat Prosek) should be in a pulldown under members. If I go to the Members menu behind the scene, I was able to put it under Members but when I save it, it doesn’t change on the website. What am I not doing?

  • Hello!

To get your menu looking exactly how you want it, with Home, About, Members, Event Photos, Join Our Email List, Ask MAG, Apply To MAG, Lamorinda Arts Alliance, and the dropdowns for Archives, Grand Opening, Reception, and the three artists, you’ll want to use WordPress’s “dropdown” menu feature.

This lets you make certain pages appear as dropdowns under a main menu item. For example, your Archives page can appear under Event Photos, and the three artists can appear under Members.

Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Go to Appearance → Menus in your Dashboard and add all the pages you want in your menu: Home, About, Members, Event Photos, Join Our Email List, Ask MAG, Apply To MAG, Lamorinda Arts Alliance, Archives, Grand Opening, Reception, Karen Mason, Mary Leigh Miller, and Pat Prosek.
    2. Click the Reorder link below your menu items to start arranging them.
    3. To make a page a dropdown under a main item, click the > right arrow next to the page you want to nest. For your setup:
      • Archives under Event Photos
      • Grand Opening and Reception under Archives
      • Karen Mason, Mary Leigh Miller, and Pat Prosek under Members
    4. When your menu items are arranged how you want them, click Done.
    5. Click Save Changes to publish your new menu so it appears on your site.

Once you try this, let me know if anything still isn’t working, I’m happy to help you get it perfect!
