Oversized header images
-
Hi I am using the theme 2011. I have added my own photos to the header image bu they are too large and take up too much of the page. How do I make them smaller? Here is my page. Thanks

With the new flexible header thing, you’ll have to edit them before uploading. See here http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/#flexible-headers

Create a header image the width required by the theme, but you can make it not as tall. Then when you upload it there will be one of the buttons that says, “use image as is” or something like that. Click that button and do not use the crop feature.

Thanks for your help. I tried resizing the image in Microsoft picture manager but it is still too big when I upload it. The problem is I dont want to crop the picture, just makeit smaller. Thoughts?

The image with the car and the food cart?
That image is going to have to be cropped, and I don’t see a clean way to crop it that it won’t lose a lot of the interesting elements of the image.

Thankyou. yes it appears that header images must all be panoramics if I want them to take up less of the page. Strange- somebody must know a way of getting around that!

The issue is that the theme you are using is a responsive design which means that all the page elements shift when you narrow the browser window or view it on a smart phone or what have you. On non-reactive themes, you can force it to use a smaller image, but do you really want a bunch of whitespace on each side of the image? It would look at the very least unprofessional. Take a look at these two images. The first is a crop of the original to the standard size for your theme. The second I removed the constraints and smashed it horizontally.
If you want to use either of them, drag them off and onto your computer desktop and then upload them.

You can’t put a 4′ x 8′ piece of plywood in a 2′ x 4′ hole. It has to be trimmed.

You are welcome. The image doesn’t look too bad squished vertically. See what you think.
