What educators need to know
The future of the web starts in your classroom.

The full power of WordPress
Whether your students need to tinker in a real-world WordPress environment, build an online portfolio or store, or write articles in a professional-level tool — WordPress.com offers the full power of WordPress, without the technical hassles of managing infrastructure.
Free for students
Once approved for the program, participating students get free hosting for one year, renewable for each subsequent year of study.
Your site lives forever
After graduation, students can keep their site online at an affordable price — and if they decide not to renew a paid plan, their site will be preserved on a free plan with all their content intact.
« I love the ‘forever’ nature of this. My students can build a real portfolio that they can actually keep and use after the course ends. »

WordPress.com education program FAQ
What happens when my plan expires?
After you finish your studies, you can renew your plan at a special discounted rate. If you prefer not to, don’t worry: your content (posts, pages, comments, and media files) will remain intact, and your site will continue to function normally on the free plan, under a subdomain (example.wordpress.com).
Keep in mind that when you move to the free plan, you will no longer have your .blog domain, nor any third‑party plugins and themes you had installed. This also means that any functionality associated with those plugins (such as products or WooCommerce order history) will no longer be available.
Can I migrate my website to another host later on?
Absolutely. If at any point you decide you prefer to host your WordPress site elsewhere, you can migrate it just as you would any other WordPress installation. Remember that you have two options: migrate only the content or migrate the entire site.
Can I use a domain other than .blog?
Sites include a free subdomain (example.wordpress.com). Students can register a domain with a .blog extension free of charge for the duration of the agreement. If you want to use a domain with another extension, you can purchase it separately or register it outside of WordPress.com and connect it to your WordPress.com site.
