.app, .dev, and .page domains have special registry requirements for privacy, SSL, and trademarks. This guide explains what these requirements mean when you register one of these domains on WordPress.com.
Anyone can register .app, .dev, and .page domains. These domain extensions have no eligibility restrictions.
Your registrant contact information is fully protected. In addition to Privacy Protection, which is included free for all eligible domains registered on WordPress.com, the registry that operates these domain extensions includes its own privacy service. You can disable WordPress.com’s Privacy Protection, but you cannot disable the registry’s privacy service. This means your registrant contact data is never displayed publicly.
The registry requires an SSL certificate to host a website using these domain extensions. WordPress.com provides free SSL certificates, so this requirement is covered when your site is hosted on WordPress.com. If you connect the domain to another host, or transfer the domain to another registrar, make sure the new provider includes an SSL certificate.
If a party holds a trademark related to your domain, you must agree not to infringe on the trademark holder’s rights. Read about how this works on the Trademark Clearinghouse website.
