This page explains special requirements for domains with the .br extension.
While .br is the official country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Brazil, only the second-level extension, .com.br, is available for registration here at WordPress.com.
Registration of .com.br domains requires manual approval; therefore, it is asynchronous and can take up to 3 business days to process.
To register a new .com.br domain, please take the following steps:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Navigate to Upgrades → Domains.
- Click the “Add a domain” button and choose “Search for a domain”.
- Click “Select” next to the domain you wish to register.
- Continue through to the checkout screen and complete the purchase.
- Wait for up to 3 days for your registration approval. You will be notified via email upon successful registration.
If we cannot auto-renew your domain and you do not manually renew it before expiration, there is no grace period—the domain goes immediately into redemption, and additional fees apply.
The redemption period lasts approximately 60 days. Once this period ends, the domain enters a registry-mandated release process and may no longer be recoverable.
To avoid redemption fees and the risk of losing your domain:
- Keep your payment method up to date.
- Watch for renewal reminder emails sent before expiration.
- Renew your domain manually if auto-renewal fails.
Transferring a .br domain involves a few steps. To initiate the process, please contact us using the account/email that owns the domain.
We do not currently accept incoming domain transfers for br (.br) TLD domains. Please use the Domain Connection option instead.
WordPress.com uses Toweb Brasil as a trustee service for .com.br domains, which means Toweb will be listed as the domain holder in the Registro.br Whois records, and you will appear as a technical contact. This will not affect your domain ownership, and you can still manage the domain through WordPress.com.
Private registration is not supported for .com.br domains.
