About .br Domains

Last reviewed on June 11, 2026

.br domains have special registry requirements for registration, renewals, transfers, and privacy. This guide explains what these requirements mean when you manage a .com.br domain on WordPress.com.

Who can register .br domain names?

While .br is the official country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Brazil, only the second-level extension, .com.br, is available for registration at WordPress.com.

Register a .com.br domain name

Registration of .com.br domains requires manual approval and can take up to three business days to process.

To register a new .com.br domain, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Upgrades → Domains.
  3. Click “Add a domain” and choose “Search for a domain”.
  4. Click Select next to the domain you wish to register.
  5. Continue through to the checkout screen and complete the purchase.
  6. Wait for up to three days for your registration approval. You will be notified via email upon successful registration.

Renewal restrictions

If WordPress.com cannot auto-renew your domain and you do not manually renew it before expiration, there is no grace period—the domain goes immediately into redemption, and additional fees apply.

The redemption period lasts approximately 60 days. Once this period ends, the domain enters a registry-mandated release process and may no longer be recoverable.

To avoid redemption fees and the risk of losing your domain:

Transfer a .br domain name

Transferring to another registrar

Transferring a .br domain involves a few steps. To initiate the process, contact support using the account or email address that owns the domain.

Incoming transfers

WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers for .br domains. Use the Domain Connection option instead.

Whois and privacy

WordPress.com uses Toweb Brasil as a trustee service for .com.br domains. This means Toweb will be listed as the domain holder in the Registro.br Whois records, and you will appear as a technical contact. This will not affect your domain ownership, and you can still manage the domain through WordPress.com.

Private registration is not supported for .com.br domains.
