About .de Domains

Last reviewed on July 18, 2025

This page explains special requirements for domains with the .de extension.

Who can register .de domains?

Anyone can register a .de domain.

Registrant Name Restrictions

Special characters are not allowed in the first and last name fields of contacts – this includes characters with diacritical marks. The acceptable syntax is listed below:

  • latin [characters with the exception of numbers and special characters]
  • hyphens
  • apostrophes
  • spaces

Organizational Registrants

No additional data or information is required for .de registrations.

Privacy Protection for .de Domains

Privacy protection is not supported for this TLD. However, no registrant contact info is shown in the public WHOIS database.

Renewal Restrictions

If we cannot auto-renew the domain name and you do not manually renew it one day before it reaches expiration, there is no grace period and the domain goes immediately into redemption and additional fees apply. The redemption period lasts approximately 30 days. Once this period is over, it is no longer possible to redeem or renew the domain.

Transfers of .de Domains

Transferring to Another Registrar

For transfers-out, .de domains use an authorization code. You will need to contact our support so we can assist in getting you the authorization code. Keep in mind that outgoing transfers of .de domains will actually reset your domain’s expiration date to a year from the transfer, as opposed to adding another year to the current expiration date.

Incoming Transfers

We do not currently accept incoming domain transfers for de TLD (.de) domains. Please use the Domain Connection option instead.
