.de domains have special registry requirements for registration, privacy, renewals, and transfers. This guide explains what these requirements mean when you manage a .de domain on WordPress.com.
Anyone can register a .de domain.
Special characters are not allowed in the first and last name fields of contacts—this includes characters with diacritical marks. The following characters are accepted:
- Latin characters (excluding numbers and special characters)
- Hyphens
- Apostrophes
- Spaces
No additional data or information is required for .de registrations.
Privacy protection is not supported for .de domains. However, no registrant contact information is shown in the public WHOIS database.
If WordPress.com cannot auto-renew the domain and you do not renew it manually at least one day before expiration, there is no grace period. The domain immediately enters redemption, and additional fees apply. The redemption period lasts approximately 30 days. Once this period is over, it is no longer possible to redeem or renew the domain.
For outgoing transfers, .de domains use an authorization code. Contact support to get the authorization code. Keep in mind that an outgoing transfer of a .de domain resets the domain’s expiration date to one year from the transfer date, instead of adding a year to the current expiration date.
WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers for .de domains. Use the Domain Connection option instead.
