Customize your Gravatar URL with a unique and memorable domain. In this guide, you will learn how to register a domain for your Gravatar profile.

When you create your WordPress.com account, you also have a Gravatar URL reserved for you based on your WordPress.com username. For example, If your username is my-groovy-username, your Gravatar profile is reserved at https://gravatar.com/my-groovy-username.

You can register one domain at no cost for one year (for a limited time). People will be able to visit your Gravatar profile through both the default URL and the domain of your choice. Domains for Gravatar support the following extensions:

Follow these steps to claim your domain:

1. Log into your Gravatar profile, using your WordPress.com credentials.
2. Under “My profile” click the “Claim a domain” link.

3. A new browser tab will open with your Gravatar profile auto-populated in the search field and available matching domains listed below.

4. After you choose your domain, you’re taken to the checkout page, where you will see that there is no charge for the first year of registration.
5. Once you complete checkout, click the “Return to Gravatar” button to navigate to your Gravatar profile.

6. While your domain is activating, you will see a message in your Gravatar profile that the domain is processing.

7. You will receive an email confirmation once the domain is ready for use.

This Gravatar domain is free for one year. If you want to keep it after one year, you can renew your domain for the standard domain renewal fee. Your domain includes a free SSL certificate.

You can have only one domain for your Gravatar profile. While your domain is being used for your Gravatar profile, you’ll be able to do only specific actions with it:

• Renew the domain
• Manage your contact information
• Transfer to another registrar
• Cancel the domain
• Add Professional Email or a Google Workspace Subscription

Other features, such as managing DNS or changing name servers, will not be accessible during the first year. Once the domain renews, those restrictions are lifted.

If you want to have complete control over your domain within the first year, you can renew it on WordPress.com or transfer it to another registrar. However, keep in mind that if you transfer your domain away or delete it and, in the future, you want to add another domain to your Gravatar profile, you will have to pay the standard fee to register it.
